Regatta report
The Wairau Rowing Club's long distance Single sculling race got underway from the Ferry Bridge at Spring Creek at 10.00am on Sunday. The tide was full and the water and wind conditions were excellent. Crews from six rowing clubs were entered.
The Central Rowing Regional Performance Centre Head Coach, and NZ Junior lead coach, Mark Stallard was the officiating starter. Crews were started at 30 second intervals to race time trial format downstream passing both the Wairau Rowing Club and the Blenheim Rowing Club.
Racing was exciting as faster crews caught and passed less experienced crews, all headed to the finish post at Baldricks Bend, some 7km downstream.
Marion Horwell the Central RPC rowing coach and NZ Gold & Silver medal winning Coach (2014 World Champs) was on the finish line and was excited by the competitiveness and enthusiasm of the rowers. "It was a pleasure to be out on such a nice day, officiating at a regatta right on our own doorstep"
All crews and supporters celebrated with a 'Sausage and Sause' afterward at Wairau Rowing Club
