"It is with deep regret that we have decided to cancel this year's Head of the Waikato River Race. The lack of entries do not justify the time and effort we all need to coordinate our crews at this time of year. It is also not fair to continue to rely on our sponsors to support it if we cannot come up with the numbers. I would rather not have the event than put one on for the sake of "keeping it on the calendar". We have always struggled to get support - so the timing of the event has to change."
